After a long winter, one of the longest winters Boston has seen in years, the BUDS finally got out on the water on March 24th. While we were still sailing among ice chunks, it was good to finally get out on the Charles. Originally practice was to begin the first week of March, however mother nature must not have got the memo and the temperature refused to rise.
Thankfully, the spring break trip to Miami from March 8th- 14th allowed the buds to get their feet wet with 5 days of perfect sailing conditions. The trip, as always, was a great chance for the team to grow closer and develop great sailing skills along the way. To add to the significance of the trip, our last day of sailing was marked with a double rainbow!
A special thanks to BUDS Alumni Heidi Benjamin, class of 86′ for inviting the team to visit her yacht, Gem.
After returning to Boston and finding the river still frozen solid, the team spent the week training at the gym. However, by the 17th of march, the team decided it was time to act. Operation ice pick began in earnest.
Believe it or not, the plan worked and after a while, visible progress was made.
After a solid day’s work and one more week of melting, the river finally gave in and thawed enough to sail.
RAH BUDS!
